In English 11, we will continue to develop our reading, writing, and vocabulary skills through studying fiction/non-fiction, poetry, drama, and more. Students will deepen their understanding of complex texts and develop a more sophisticated level of writing and speaking.
According to the CollegeBoard course description: AP English Language and Composition is an introductory college-level composition course. Students cultivate their understanding of writing and rhetorical arguments through reading, analyzing, and writing texts as they explore topics like rhetorical situation, claims and evidence, reasoning and organization, and style.
Advanced English prepares the student for collegiate studies, specifically Freshman English. The student will be engaged in educational experiences regarding effective listening, speaking, writing, and reading. Advanced English teaches critical reading and analysis of literature; advanced techniques of formal written composition; personal writing in various literary forms; and self-designed oral presentations and group discussion techniques.
Applied Communications teaches students communication skills—reading, writing, listening, speaking—concentrating on “real-world” applications. This course emphasizes the practical application of communication as a business tool in presentations, technical reports and manuals, as examples-- business letters, resumes, and applications. This course also aims to assist students' reading comprehension with a focus on informative and expository texts as a scaffold to informative and expository writing.
