Here is an excellent example of a student annotating with purpose! This student uses a color coding system AND adds their reactions to the text AND looks for the analysis information (SPACE-CAT) as they go. 

Do you have to do exactly what this student does? No. However, this student comes to class prepared and ready to go! They interact with the text, understand what is happening, and usually have most of the answers to Friday's questions.
